Project Description

Construction of 12 apartments for a corporate client for the residence of their Senior Officers. The location – Mullanpur is strategically located between Chandigarh and Baddi (an industrial town in Himachal Pradesh). The client works (Vardhman Textiles Ltd) are situated at Baddi and this area gives a huge opportunity for senior management to remain close to a big city i.e. Chandigarh whilst not going very far away from the work place. The design for 12 apartments on 4 plots is conceived to provide a different entity for the building located in the middle of a colony designed in gothic style architecture developed by one of India’s largest Real estate developer DLF and has quiet and serene atmosphere with the site right next to their main state of the art Club House. The design response is cutting edge straightline minimal houses with honest architectural language giving the project different identity from the surrounding with thriving similarities for all 4 houses.

The planning followed is uncomplicated with 2 rooms in front and 2 on the rear bringing light and ventilation to all aplenty. Use of brick tiles is obligatory for the regional representation as the area of Mullanpur has scores of brick kilns. The west facade which also has the front elevation of the houses block is restricted by use of trapezoidal concrete frame in square outlines. Similar angular lines are used in the various elements such as doors, side elevations etc.

The plan comprises of 3 bedrooms 2 in the rear and 1 in front with attached toilets and balcony access from all bedrooms. Kitchen is sandwiched between the two bedrooms in the rear which also has basic utilities area. The entry is from light punctuated staircase block which has access to the drawing room as well as a separate servant room for each apartment.
